Georgetta Louise Scott, affectionately known as "Mama Gigi," was born in Louisville, Kentucky on Tuesday, October 7, 1958, to Eugenia Bertha Martin and Horace Scott. Both parents preceded her in death.
Georgetta was called Gigi from an early age. Gigi was raised in Greenville, Mississippi, by her mother "Gina" and her great grandmother "Little Momma" (her great grandmother preceded her in death). As a young child, Gigi grew up surrounded by her brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Gigi graduated from TL Weston High School in Greenville, Mississippi. In 1976, at the invitation of her aunt and cousin, Georgetta moved north to Chicago for a chance at a better life. Gigi had a strong work ethic. Her career included working at Marvell & Towers Insurance Company and as an entrepreneur, she opened and operated Georgetta's House of Joy Day Care.
Georgetta was outgoing, charismatic and sassy with a wonderful smile to match her sense of humor. She was an active member of every community she lived in, serving as a valued volunteer in organizations such as the Orlando Magic, the Coalition for the Homeless, Women's Health Center of Orlando and Girls Inc. of Winter Haven, FL.
On April 2, 1994, Georgetta married Albert Johnson Jr. They shared 30 years of loving each other and raising their children.
Georgetta had numerous interests and hobbies. Two of her favorites were singing and dancing. "Nobody could beat Gigi dancing to James Brown!" Gigi loved fashion. She loved makeup, jewelry and clothes. One of her favorite things to do was to put on makeup and wear her beautiful clothes and jewelry to worship in the house of the Lord.
Gigi was raised on good Southern cooking. She loved fresh whole foods from the south and raised her children on cuisines from all over the world including, Italian, Mexican, and Chinese. "You name it, my mom could cook it," one of her children stated. Later on, she adopted and became an enthusiast dedicated to a creative and healthy dietary lifestyle which included vibrant delicious vegetable-based entrees. The juicing world would never know such creativity. "Mama could make anything taste delicious!"
Gigi loved home interior design. She had a gift for making any room come alive with color, window treatments, plants, paintings and furniture. An empty room was her canvas.
In the 1990's Georgetta was ordained an Evangelist at Liberty Temple Full Gospel Church in Chicago, IL. After serving faithfully there, she and Al relocated to Liberty Temple Orlando where she served faithfully as well. Gigi was a God-fearing Worshipper. She lived a life dedicated to the Word of God and Prayer; Gigi loved to play worship music from sun-up to sundown.
Not only did Gigi love God, her family and friends, she also loved her grand pets which included Chips, a purebred miniature Schnauzer, and a cat named Owen.
In addition to her parents, Georgetta was preceded in death by her late brothers; Anthony Scott, Charlie "Jack" Scott, Lawrence Scott and Robbie Scott.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Albert "Al" Johnson Jr., siblings: Bob Martin of Florida, Derry Martin McCoy of Virginia, and Debra Scott of Mississippi. Her children Pam Jackson (Kenny), Tracey Allen, Joseph (Audrese), Joanna and Janice Johnson; grandchildren: Malik, Cody, Bria and Harmony and a host of other relatives. Georgetta had so many friends including Pastor Dedra Smith, Gaylene Malone, Terri Simmons and Glenda Marcandante.
I will leave you with this 1 Corinthians 5:55-57. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? 56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. This is not goodbye, but we'll see you later.
