Geraldine Whitfield

Geraldine Whitfield was born on December 1, 1954, in Sunset, Arkansas, to Anna Whitfield and Roger Garrett. Her parents proceeded her in death.  She was a cherished daughter whose life was rooted in faith, love, and compassion. From an early age, Geraldine possessed a joyful spirit, a caring heart, and a personality that drew people to her. Her kindness, warmth, and infectious smile left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

After relocating to Chicago, Illinois, Geraldine attended Calumet High School, where she built lifelong friendships and continued to grow into the remarkable woman so many came to know and love. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She later united with New Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Baskin, where she faithfully worshipped and served the Lord. Her relationship with God was the foundation of her life, and her unwavering faith carried her through every season of her life.

Geraldine believed in working hard throughout her life. Throughout her career, she proudly worked for Staff Builders as a Staffing Supervisor, and later with CDT/PACE, where she faithfully served as a Transportation Specialist for 28 years before retiring in 2020. She was admired for her dedication, compassion, and willingness to help anyone in need. Her coworkers respected her not only for her strong work ethic but also for the genuine love and encouragement she shared with everyone around her.

Outside of work, Geraldine truly enjoyed life. She enjoyed listening to Dusties music and the timeless sounds of Earth, Wind & Fire, watching scary movies, taking road trips, and spending quality time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed cooking and was well known for her homemade potato salad and her famous peach cobbler. Her laughter was contagious, her smile could brighten any room, and her loving spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

Above all, Geraldine loved her family. She was a devoted sister, aunt, and friend who believed in checking on those she loved, keeping the family connected, and making everyone feel special. Her legacy is one of faith, resilience, compassion, and unconditional love. The lessons she taught, the prayers she prayed, and the memories she created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Geraldine leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving siblings, Ruthie Whitfield and Tommy Whitfield, who shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories with her. She was joyfully welcomed into Heaven by her beloved siblings, Nancy Whitfield, Samuel Whitfield, and Clinton Whitfield. Although our hearts ache, we find peace in knowing there has been a glorious family reunion in Heaven.

She also leaves her devoted nieces, Sharon Whitfield (Melvin), Theresa Smith (Edwin), Najala Watson, and Laniya Lucas; her beloved nephews, Reginald Whitfield Sr (Yolanda), Reginald Whitfield Jr., Tommy Johnson, and Thaddeus Johnson; along with a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family, her cherished New Faith Missionary Baptist Church family, lifelong friends, neighbors, and all whose lives were forever touched by her love.

Though our hearts are heavy today, we thank God for the gift of Geraldine's life. She loved deeply, laughed often, and gave freely of herself. Whether it was her warm smile, a comforting word, her famous potato salad, or her peach cobbler made with love, Geraldine had a special way of making everyone feel at home.

She will be deeply missed, but we take comfort in knowing that she has answered her Master's call and is resting peacefully in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior. Her love, faith, kindness, and beautiful spirit will continue to live on in every heart she touched.

Sleep well, Geraldine. Take your well-deserved rest. We love you, and your memory will forever remain in our hearts. Until we meet again.
