Gertrude Bond was born on April 28, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Cleve and Emma Hill. She was blessed with seven siblings who preceded her in death, John Hill, Elizabeth Smith, Lucille Beal, Lucy Thomas, Ralph Hill, Cleola Mitchell, and Melvin Hill. Gertrude made her transition from this life to eternal rest on Wednesday, June 22, 2022.
Gertrude was raised in the church and accepted Christ at a young age. She attended high school in Chicago Public Schools and married Daventer Bond in 1949. Through this union six children were born, Daventer “Spookum” Bond Jr, Larry “MeMe” (Evelyn) Bond, Wendy Christian, Dennis 8X, Derrick Bond, and Wanda Bond. She loved her family and spent her life caring for them.
Gertrude loved cooking, attending church, and looking after the children of the family. Gertrude also loved to talk on the phone, being comical, shopping and watching baseball. She was known as a classy, jazzy women that loved to take care of herself, her kids and her grandkids. She also spent time in her later years as a housekeeper at the Bowman Home in Midlothian, Illinois.
Gertrude leaves to cherish all that knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleve and Emma Hill, her husband, Daventer Bond siblings and two children, Daventer Bond, Jr. and Wendy Christian.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: her children, Larry (Evelyn) of Argo, IL, Dennis of University Park, IL, Derrick of University Park, IL, and Wanda of Merrillville, IL. She also leaves to cherish nine grandchildren, Tina Miller, Myron Magee, Jr., Marcus Reed, Erika (Lavonse) Johnson, Myeasha (Gabriel) Young, Bianca Bond, LaKenya Robinson, Ramanda Bond, Derrick Bond, Jr.; 13 great-grandchildren; 10 great great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.
