Glenda Smart Obituary

Glenda Jean Smart was born January 29, 1964 in Decatur, IL to Lillie Mae Brown and Robert Hill.  Glenda departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday morning, October 18, 2020.  Glenda is survived by her loving husband of twenty-five years, Chester Smart; her mother Lillie Mae, brother Charles Hill (Stacy), brother Robert “Trent” Hill (Amy); nieces and nephews Tavia, Sierra, Tristen, Ashton, Hannah, Trent, Jr., and Naomi; great-niece Reign Lynn and great-nephew Ashton, Jr.  They all cherish the memories of their Aunt Glenda. She is also survived by Aunts, Uncles, and cousins who loved her dearly.

Glenda graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1982.  She attended Butler University, Indiana and also Tennessee State University.  Glenda served honorably in the United States Air Force for thirteen years.  This afforded her and Chester travel to many cities throughout the United States.  Glenda most recently worked at Edward-Elmhurst Hospital as a laboratory technician for the past nineteen years.

Glenda was preceded in death by her father, Robert Hill, her maternal grandmother and grandfather, Willie Mae Hegler and Eddie D. Brown; her paternal grandmother and grandfather, Martha Cook and Willie Hill.

Glenda loved the outdoors.  She loved hiking, bicycling, sightseeing, amusement parks, and driving their RV to campsites throughout the country with her beloved husband by her side.  Often these trips included her loving brother Charles and sister-in-law Stacy, with their children that she loved to spoil with fun-filled adventures that she would organize just for them.  Glenda loved, loved, loved her husband and her family.  During her valiant fight with her own illness, she still took care of her mother who has been battling an illness too. Glenda took her mother to her appointments for treatments while undergoing her own treatments.  This was the character of Glenda; truly a selfless woman who always catered to the needs of others, while pushing through the pain she endured.  She has touched so many lives throughout her military career and to this day.
