Gregory “Cooper” Lee Obituary

Gregory Albert Lee “Cooper” was born on May 7, 1958, in Joliet, Illinois, to Birdie Cooper. He was called home peacefully on June 2, 2026 surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Greg was raised in Joliet, Illinois, where he attended elementary school, junior high school, and Joliet Central High School, graduating with the Class of 1977. Throughout his life, he remained deeply connected to the community that helped shape him and the family he cherished.

At an early age, Greg became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he learned the importance of faith, family, and service. His belief in God remained an important part of his life’s journey and helped guide him through both joyful and challenging times.

Known affectionately as “Coop,” Greg was a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He had a warm spirit and a kind heart that drew people to him. Whether sharing stories, offering encouragement, or simply spending time with those he loved, Greg made a lasting impression on everyone he met. His sense of humor, strength, and genuine love for family will be remembered and treasured forever.

Though he has departed from this earthly life, the memories he created and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Greg was preceded in death by his mother, Birdie Cooper; his sister, Dorothy Booker; his brother, James “Gene” Cooper; his niece, Amorette Cooper-Luckey; his brother-in-law, Emmitt Craig; and his lifelong love, Connie Wilson.

To cherish his memory, he leaves two sisters, Juiet Craig and Jacqueline Cooper; two brothers, Jerry Cooper and Carl Lee; his brother-in-law, William Booker; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
