Harry Lloyd. Redmond Jr. was born August 3, 1947, in Lexington, Mississippi to the late Harry L. Redmond Sr. and Beatrice (Waddell). He was called to rest on May 14, 2025, where he passed peacefully in his sleep.
Harry Jr. was raised in Joliet Illinois and graduated from Joliet Central High School, class of 1965, where he was a member of the football team. Upon graduation, Harry was hired at Caterpillar Tractor Co. and remained a devoted Machine Operator for 42 years. In those 42 years, Harry never missed a day of work, which speaks about his integrity and work ethic.
A family man, who loved his daughter and granddaughters. Harry Jr. loved music and had a collection of albums by various old school artists. He passed on that love of music to his sisters whom he would teach the latest dances. We would gather in the living room on Friday evenings and party as if they had their own club. Harry was also an avid reader; mystery novels were among his favorites. Blessed with a great memory, Harry would entertain the family with past stories. He was truly a great big brother, and his nieces and nephews loved him.
Harry Jr. accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Second Baptist Church, Joliet Illinois. In his later years he was a faithful member of the New Covenant Worship Center, Joliet Illinois. Although Harry was unable to attend church these past three years, he watched faithfully through live streaming and made sure he mailed his tithes and offerings.
Harry Jr. was preceded in death by both parents; sister, Bernice (Demetrous) Betts, great nephew, Malik D. Sanders, brother-in-law, Percy (Lillie) Harrison Jr.; and two stepsons, Moses Chambers and Edward Chambers.
Harry Jr. leaves to cherish his memories daughter, Quanitia L. (Peachy) Redmond (Lafayette, Indiana); two granddaughters, Diamond Sowell (Greenwood, Indiana) and Aaliyah Coney (Lafayette, Indiana); six sisters, Lillie (Percy, deceased) Harrison, Katherine (Bobby) Greenwood (Canton, Mississippi), Delores (Raymond) Daniels, Marion (Renard) Hite, Gloria J. Orasco, and Regina L. Redmond (Kansas City, Missouri); brother-in-law, Demetrous (Bernice) Betts; stepson, Patrick Chambers, Tampa, Florida; two special friends, Phillip J. Harris Sr. and Dr. Lee Rome; and a host of relatives and friends. Harry Jr. will truly be missed.
