Helen Deloris Sims was born November 23, 1954 in Joliet, Illinois to Artis and William Sims Jr. William passed away and Artis married Peter Thompson. Helen was the oldest of seven children. She accepted Christ at an early age. She departed this life to glory amongst family and friends on Thursday, November 16, 2023. She completed Grammar School Training and High School at United Cerebral Palsy Center in Joliet, Illinois.
As young woman, Helen began her journey of supporting her peers along with her mother and father as a key proponent for the Easter Seals Telethon. She also lended her name to the Helen Sims Organization, a non-profit organization which helped raise money for other Thompson Houses. Who would have known the circumstances of Helen‘s disability would be so impactful to the life of others. Helen became a well-known name in the community. Admired and loved for her perpetual smile and dedication to supporting others with disabilities.
There will always be a place in the history of United Cerebral Palsy Center & Easter Seal Rehabilitation Center to Commemorate her!
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, William Sims, Artis Thompson and Pete Thompson and brother, Anthony Steven Sims.
Helen leaves to cherish her life; four sisters, Vanessa (Carl) Shelby, Robin (Eric) Miller, Denise Thompson, April Thompson and one brother, Mark Sims; 10 nieces and nephews, Karey Shelby, Anthony Sims Jr., James (Robin ) Clerk, Lori Shelby, Robyn, Shelby, Vanessa Sims, Symone (Artemas Sr.) Mondy, Brenda Clerk, Eric Miller Jr. and Solomon Moffett; 12 great nephews and nieces, Regis Shelby, Isabelle Clerk, Anthony Sims, Jr., Kiara Sims, Amari and Sean Rathe, Shelby Stanford, Milan Sims, Kayden Harris, Penelope Mondy, Artemas Mondy, Jr. and Genevie Mondy; one god daughter, Lauren Epting and best friend, Jenneice Holman. Helen was committed to her siblings, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, god daughter and The All Nations Family.
