Herbie Jean Shaw, age 72 passed away April 1, 2024 after a courageous battle with Sarcoidosis disease. She was born February 6, 1952 to Herbert Jr. and Katie Mae (Bridges) Barnett in Soso, MS. She relocated with her parents to Joliet, IL.
Herbie accepted Christ and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Joliet, IL She attended McKinley Park and Washington Jr. High and graduated in 1971 from Joliet East High School. Herbie was the proud mother of Jerrita Marie Flowers.
Herbie united in marriage to George H. Shaw in 1987, and gained a daughter, Demetria “Dee-Dee” and a son, Quincy.
Herbie was employed by Folger Adams, Bethesda Services and Easter Seals Thompson House, where she became Vice President of the AFSCME Local 3237 Union. She retired from Easter Seals in 2016.
Herbie is preceded in death by her husband, George H. Shaw; parents, Herbert Barnett Jr. and Katie Barnett; daughter, Demetria Shaw-Davis; nephews, Arthur A. Barnett and Jeffrey W. Shaw; and brother, Thomas L. Barnett Sr.
Herbie is survived by her daughter, Jerrita Marie Flowers; son, George Quincy Shaw of Carlsbad, NM; sisters, Debora A. Barnett, Bay Springs MS, and Nellie (Calvin) Luckett, Joliet, IL; sister-in-law, Joy L. Barnett, brother-in-law, James (Katrina) Shaw; all of Joliet, IL, five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
