Ida King Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ida King, 89, lovingly known as “Mother” to everyone who knew her.

Born on March 18, 1937, in Bessemer, Alabama, to the late Mexico and Mary Alice Bailey. She lived a life rooted in love, service, faith, and family. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and treasured friend to so many whose lives were touched by her kindness and generosity.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Charles King, and from this union four children were born: Tyrone, Bettye, Therrance, and Jacqueline.

Ida King was known for her servant’s heart and unwavering willingness to help others. A faithful volunteer at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, she dedicated countless hours serving her church family and community with grace and compassion. She was a sports enthusiast and loved her Chicago Bulls. Ida never met a stranger and always made people feel welcomed, valued, and loved.

She also had a remarkable sense of style and creativity. Whether decorating a room or preparing for a church event, Ida brought elegance, warmth, and beauty to everything she touched. Her joyful spirit, caring nature, and strong faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Ida transitioned from the earthly realm into the everlasting arms of our Heavenly Father on May 18, 2026, where she will join her loved ones that preceded her in death, her husband, Charles King; sister, Bobbie Crudup; brothers, Hugh Bailey, and Sonny Givens.

Ida leaves to cherish her memory her beloved children: Wanza Tyrone King, Bettye (King) Hartwell, Therrance (Christine) King, Jacqueline King; siblings, Charlyne Moffett, Carleen Bailey, Dorothy Bailey, and Bonita Marshall; along with a host of grandchildren (10) and great grandchildren (8), extended family members, church family, and dear friends.
