Jacqueline (Poe) McMurtry, 74, of Joliet, Illinois, passed away on October 9, 2023. She was born on February 5, 1949, in HaIesburg, Mississippi, to the late Beatrice (Putman) Poe and Charley Poe.
Jacqueline attended Fairmount Elementary and Lockport East High School, where she received her diplomas. At the young age of 19, she found her forever partner and on September 25, 1971, she joined in union with Charley C McMurtry Sr. Their 52 years of marriage brought four boys and seven girls, and through triumphs, her loving husband was always by her side.
In 1977, Jacqueline accepted her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Like her mother, she opened her home and above all her heart, making sure no one would be a stranger in her presence. She experienced much success, both mentally, physically, and spiritually throughout her life journey.
After graduating from high school, Jacqueline pursued her talent in hair and beauty at the Cannella School of Hair. She went on to open her own salon shop in the home she and her husband lovingly built together. Despite her talent, her true passion was working with children.
In 2000, she was grateful to be employed by the Lockport Township Park District, where she had the opportunity to follow her passion and work with children in various positions, including Preschool Aid, Oasis Instructor, Nursery Attendant, and Day Camp Counselor. Jacqueline found fulfillment in shaping the minds of children and making a positive impact on their lives.
Jacqueline is survived by her husband, Charley C McMurtry Sr., her sons Gary Poe, Anthony McMurtry, Simon McMurtry, her daughters Tracie (McMurtry) Crowder, Naomi McMurtry, Helen McMurtry, Rebekah (McMurtry) Parrish, Janella McMurtry, Jessica McMurtry, Jacke’ McMurtry, her siblings, host of grandchildren, grate-grandchildren, nieces, nephews.
She is preceded in death by her son Charley C. McMurtry, Jr.
May Jacqueline McMurtry's soul rest in eternal peace, and may her cherished memories bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
