James Pass Obituary

James Anthony Pass
February 10, 1979 – May 14, 2025

James Anthony Pass, affectionately known as Anthony, was born on February 10, 1979, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late James Z. Pass and Lillie Pass. On May 14, 2025, at the age of 46, Anthony was called home to be with the Lord, leaving a legacy of love and strength. He is now reunited with his beloved father, James Z. Pass, in eternal peace.

Baptized at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Chicago, Anthony’s faith was an important foundation in his life. He was raised in the South Side of Chicago, a neighborhood where he learned the values of community, family, and resilience. A gifted student, Anthony attended St. Leo the Great Elementary School and graduated from Leo High School at just 16 years old, a true reflection of his sharp intellect and drive. He went on to pursue higher education at St. Xavier University, where he further honed his talents.

Anthony’s zest for life was undeniable. Known for his infectious smile and positive energy, he made everyone around him feel welcomed and valued. His friends, family, and even acquaintances often spoke of his warmth and how he could light up a room with just his presence. He lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment with enthusiasm and a deep love for those around him. He had a magnetic personality—always friendly, warm, and deeply loyal to his loved ones. A hardworking man, he devoted himself to being a provider, protector, and pillar of strength for his family.

His greatest joy came from his family, and particularly his three daughters—Chanel, Jaliyah, and Taylor. He was a proud father who always put his girls first, showing them every day what it meant to be strong, loving, and kind. Whether he was cheering them on at school events or dance recitals or simply spending time together at home, his devotion to them knew no bounds. He was a father-like figure to his nephew Shane and nieces Cheyenne and Shannyn.

On August 13, 2016, Anthony married the love of his life, Tiffany Lofton. Their union was built on mutual respect, deep love, and a shared vision for the future. Over the course of their eight-and-a-half-year marriage, they created a life filled with memories, laughter, and a partnership rooted in faith and support, and their passion for cooking and serving others.

Anthony was also a man of many passions. He was an exceptional cook and had a dream of opening his own restaurant, a place where he could share not only his culinary skills but also the joy he found in feeding others. His kitchen was his sanctuary, and feeding others was his ministry. For Anthony, cooking was more than just a hobby—it was a way to bring people together, to nourish both body and soul. His love for cooking was matched by his love for those he cared about, always going out of his way to make others feel special through a homemade meal or a kind gesture.

Anthony’s strength, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and friends will never be forgotten. He leaves behind his devoted mother, Lillie Pass, who was his greatest supporter throughout his life. He is also survived by his mother figure and aunt, Lee F. Johnson, who played an essential role in shaping the man he became. His loving wife, Tiffany Lofton, and mother-in-law, Mildred Lofton, will forever carry the memories of their time together in their hearts.

Anthony’s daughters, Chanel Domonique, Jaliyah Laverne, and Taylor Janae, were the light of his life, and his love for them will continue to guide them as they grow. He is also survived by his brother, Marcus E. Pass, as well as his cousin, Denise Mays, who was like a sister to him, and his aunts Lucindy Woodard and Barbara Wade. A host of family, friends, and all those who were touched by his kindness will miss him deeply.

As we mourn the loss of this remarkable man, we also celebrate the incredible life he lived—a life full of love, laughter, and a passion for serving others. Anthony leaves behind not just memories but a lasting legacy of how to live with grace, joy, and an open heart.
