Deacon James David Ingram was born on January 5, 1927, in Yazoo City, Mississippi, to Jessie Bell and Sam Ingram Sr. From his earliest days, James demonstrated a deep love for God, family, and community—a legacy that would shape every chapter of his remarkable life.
Called to faithful service, Deacon Ingram dedicated many years to Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, serving faithfully as a deacon under the leadership of the late Pastor James McNear. His devotion did not stop there—he continued to serve succeeding pastors with unwavering love, grace, and a spirit of excellence until his health began to fail. His commitment to the church was rooted in a life lived for Christ and for others.
James also served his community through his work at the Joliet Public Library, where he held the position of driver of the Mobile Book. Through this work, he helped bring the joy of reading to many—bridging education, connection, and access for all.
He had a passion for gardening and a deep love for the Bible, which he knew well. James treasured time in God’s Word, and his faith was a guiding light to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nellie Mae Ingram; his parents, Jessie Bell and Sam Ingram Sr.; his sisters, Elizabeth Ingram, Earline Ingram, Claudine Ingram-Dodson, and Eloys Ingram Herron-Dinwiddle; and his brothers, Albert Ingram and Sam Ingram Jr.
James answered the call of the Lord on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Deacon Ingram leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughters, Lisa Jean of Jackson, MS and Jennifer Ingram of Chicago, IL; his devoted son, Stanley Ingram of Joliet, IL and Wayne Ingram of Chicago, IL; his dear sister, Mary Lorine Ingram Butler-Smith of Champaign, IL; special nephew, Christopher Dodson and a host of other family and friends who were blessed by his life.
James lived a great, God-filled life. His faith, kindness, and joyful spirit touched countless lives. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
