James Thomas Gant “Tommy/Bird” was born to Henry and Rebecca Gant on December 2, 1947, being the seventh child born to this union. Tommy accepted Christ at a young age and became a member of St. John M.B. Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Odell Thompson. He received his education in the Joliet Public Schools district, graduating from Joliet East High School.
Tommy proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, stationed in Fort Sill, OK, member of the 147th infantry. Tommy married Geraldine Jackson in 1970 and fathered four sons. He was a grandfather of 14 and great grandfather of five. Tommy dedicated 38 years of his career at Citco Oil Refinery and proudly retired. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, he also loved watching sports, westerns and his new found tv love was Yellow Stone.
On December 17, 2024, Tommy was called home to be with the Lord, with his sons by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, William, Quinton and Jimmie Gant; four sisters, Rachel, Dorsey, Fannie and May Jewel; three aunts, Mary, Ola Mae and Lola Mae; two nieces; two nephews; three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
Leaving precious memories to cherish: his sons Terry (Kimberly), Zeric, Christopher, and Aaron (Tamika) Gant; brother, LaVern Ray Gant of Joliet; 14 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other family and friends.
