James E. Goins Jr.

James Edward Goins, Jr. was born September 17, 1948 in Arkabutla, Mississippi.  His parents were James Goins Sr. and Eva Goins.  Their family moved to East Chicago, Indiana when he was one years old.

James graduated from Purdue University in 1974 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After 10 years of working as an Electrical Engineer for Honeywell, Inc., James became a Senior Consulting Engineer and travelled working for various companies in Illinois, Maryland and Michigan for the next 10 years.

James went back to school and received his Master's in Education from DePaul University and Master of Science in Mathematics from Chicago State University in 2000.  He taught Mathematic courses at various Junior Colleges and completed his teaching career as an Adjunct Professor of Math at Moraine Valley Jr. College.  Even after retirement, he was forever a teacher.  His grandchildren, nieces and nephews called him whenever they needed help with math homework.

James accepted Jesus as his Savior at a young age and rededicated his life to God while in college.  While attending Purdue University, he met his future wife, Regetta Smith.  They were married on June 12, 1971.  From this union, six children were born.  James was a devout Christian man, teaching his children discipline and instruction in the Lord.  He would lead his children into prayer and yeah Bible lesson on Saturday evenings.  He served as a teacher in children's church at San Francisco Temple C.O.G.I.C. in St. Louis, MO.  After moving to Bolingbrook, he served as a Deacon at Grace Pentecostal C.O.G.I.C.  In late life, disabilities prevented him from attending services, but he continued to be a Christian example for his children and grandchildren.

James Goins departed this life on Saturday, June 5, 2021.  He was preceded in death by his parents, James Goins and Eva Goins; brother, TJ Goins and sister, Beulah Mundy.

​He Is survived by his wife, Regatta Goins; four daughters, Candice (Gary), Caryn (Bennie), Christal, Calena and two sons, James (Minyetta) and Jason (Amelia) and two sisters, Mabel Barnes and Kevi Goins. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

James' Professional associates include: National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics, American Association of Physics Teachers and Illinois Section of the Association of Physics Teachers.
