One word, Responsible describes our father, James H. White
He joined the Army just after graduating from high school to support himself and help his mother. He served his country with honor, joining before the war started until he was discharged when the war ended.
He married Majorie Walker in 1942 and they were married 74 years until she passed away in 2017. He promised to take care of her and he did. Sending her an allotment while he was in the service and then working to take care of her and the family when he returned.
He and Marjorie were the parents of six children. Their biggest regret was that two of their children, Derrick and Shari passed away before them.
As children, we did not have everything we wanted, but we had everything we needed; food, clothing, shelter and most of all, love.
We truly believed in Santa Claus because of all the toys we received for Christmas. Santa never gave us practical things. We didn't know at the time that our father saved all year long for Christmas for us.
Our father was a Sundy School Teacher and he took us to Sunday school and Church at the Antioch Baptist Church. He was not only a Sunday School Teacher, he was a Deacon, Trustee and member of the Male Chorus. He joined Antioch Baptist Church in 1947 and he is now one of the oldest members and most faithful members of the 73 years. He is now a Deacon Emeritus.
He worked as an Arc Welder at the Maremont Company over 20 years and they closed down and then he went to work about 15 years for the Pullman Car Company until he retired. He didn't stay home for long and he worked for Antioch Church as maintenance for another 15 years until he retired from there at the age of 80.
the Bible in Pslam 90 states the years of our lives are three score and 10 years (70 years) and maybe by reason of strength four score (80) years. Our father lived 101 years and that is by grace alone.
We are very proud and blessed to have had James and Majorie as our father and mother. They will be truly be missed but will live in our heats.
Love, Janice, Bernadine, Jerrold and Maxine
