James "Jocko" Jones III Obituary

James Julius Jones III, affectionately known as “Jocko,” was born on August 16, 1946 to Warren Mitchell Foote and Ruth (Richardson) Jones and peacefully transitioned on Friday, October 24, 2025.

James' journey began in Joliet, Illinois, where his natural charisma, leadership and humor began to shine. It was during these formative years that he discovered a passion for drawing-a talent that would later bring depth and creativity to his professional life.

James accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Until his passing, he embraced every opportunity to share his testimony, recounting the miracles and transformative power of God’s love in his life. His heart for service, generous spirit and unwavering mission to love inspired everyone around him.

Renowned for his strength, humor, and infectious joy, James brightened every room he entered. His laughter and generosity left a lasting impression on all who met him, and his commitment to family never wavered. To know James was to experience the qualities of a man filled with character, wisdom, and a heart capable of lighting even the darkest days.

An exceptionally talented barber, James viewed his craft as ministry. Every haircut was more than just a styling session-it was an opportunity to offer encouragement, share laughter, and remind his clients of God’s unconditional love. His mentorship and supportive nature inspired many to believe in themselves and in the grace of God.

James was also a devoted participant in Narcotics Anonymous. He continued to attend meetings, motivated by a desire to give back. When asked about his ongoing commitment, he would always say that "he needed the program as much as it needed him". His testimony about overcoming personal struggles provided hope and guidance to many facing similar challenges.

James' legacy is one of warmth, resilience and profound faith. His many contributions to the lives of others will always be remembered, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
