Jeannie Golliday Obituary

On November 30, 1969, Jeannie Golliday was born to John Golliday and Evelvyn Washington Golliday in Chicago, Illinois. As a child, John met and married Gwen, and they raised Jeannie, along with other siblings, on the Westside, then moved to the Southside of Chicago in her teen years. This is where she grew into the extraordinary woman who was deeply cherished and loved. Jeannie attended Brian Piccolo Elementary School and continued her education at Near North Career Magnet High School, where she graduated with Honors in 1987.

Jeannie attended and was a member of Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Church, Chicago, under the Late D.R. Bell, Th D, Ph.D. Jeannie was baptized at an early age and received the Holy Ghost in her teen years. Jeannie sang in the Christ Temple Youth choir, worked in the kitchen during the Illinois State Convention, attended Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

Jeannie's first job was at Jewel’s as a teen. As an adult, she later worked for the United States Postal Service in 1993 until she was stricken with a muscular illness and could no longer work. However, Jeannie did not let that stop her and used her administrative and secretarial skills to use. Jeannie worked as an administrative assistant and a secretary at several churches. She also would assist people with babysitting, who later became her adoptive children and grandchildren. She was also known to bake a mean sweet potato pie that would have asked for more.

During her life span, Jeannie brought into the world her most prized possession, her children, Jasmine, China, and Alonzo Golliday. She loved her children dearly and loved to celebrate their birthdays. Jeannie took pride in being their mother and would dare you not to do or say anything to them. They were and are forever her babies!

Jeannie was called home to be with the Lord on Nov. 16th at 5:50 am, surrounded by her loved ones. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Cleveland (Pops) and Ora Dee (Dee Dee) Golliday, Great-Aunt Polly Walker, Uncle Bud, and her Uncles Cleveland Jr. and Leon Golliday.

Jeannie leaves to cherish her parents: John (Gwen) Golliday and Evelyn Golliday. Her children: Jasmine (Kavon) Ivory, China (Anthony), and Alonzo (Leesa) Golliday. Her grandchildren: Joshua and Jordan Golliday. Her siblings: Jerome Golliday, Gewel Jones, Greg Golliday, Johnny Golliday, and Ola (Brian) Smith, and a host of family, friends, adoptive children, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
