Jeffery Scott Shelby Sr.

Jeffery Scott Shelby, Sr. “Scottie” was born on July 12, 1957 in Joliet, Illinois to Willie and May Shelby.  He departed this life peacefully at home with his family on May 23, 2022.

He accepted Christ at a young age and continued in his faith as a member of Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church. Jeffery attended Joliet Public Schools and graduated from Joliet Central High School. 

In July 1980, Jeffery married the love of his life, Denise. Nothing made him happier than making her happy. They shared many wonderful times together, building a legacy with their sons that will be forever cherished. He found joy in coordinating family fish frys and picnics where he dubbed himself the ‘Master Griller’, making sure the ribs and fish were spot on!

He enjoyed bowling with friends, video games, collecting fancy watches and watching basketball. He was a true fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Golden State Warriors.  Jeffery’s work ethic was impeccable. He was employed with Personal Products in Wilmington, IL for 30 years. After the company moved their operation, he transitioned to Pactiv in Romeoville, where he retired after 10+ years of service.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Shelby; one brother, David Shelby; maternal grandparents, Booker and Georgia Moffett; paternal grandparents RJ and Ethel Smith.

To cherish his life and continue his legacy, Jeffery leaves behind: his mother, May Shelby; sister, Annette (Michael) Barber; wife, Denise Shelby; four sons, D’Andre George, Donald Morgan, Leon Morgan, Jeffrey (Kendra) Shelby; and godson, Johnathan Barber, all of Joliet, IL and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins and friends.
