Jennifer Johnson Obituary

Jennifer Lynn Johnson affectionately known as “Muff” was born November 3, 1949 in Joliet, Illinois to Josephine Armstrong and Lester Johnson.

A lifelong resident of Joliet, she attended grade school at St. Joseph (1953), high school at Providence (1967) and college at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale (1971) and often boasted about being a Saluki.

Jennifer’s contributions to Joliet Public Schools (District 86) include, Washington Junior High School (Dean), Dirksen Junior High School (Principal), and Marycrest School (Principal).  She retired in the year 2000.

A Gold Member (50 years and over) of the Delta Beta Chapter beginning in SIU on January 23, 1971.  She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church family of which she was a faithful member who made many contributions; one in particular, the Sacred Heart Annual Revival.

Jenifer is remembered for her charismatic spirit, a role model of class, and one who gave the gift of love.  She cherished the relationships she fostered with her fellow educators as well as the lives of the many students she touched during her years in education.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her mother, Jennifer Armstrong; one brother, Robert Johnson; stepsisters, Denise Mack and Minnette Edmon; uncle, Leon Holt and father, Lester Dan Johnson.

Jennifer passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care in Joliet, Illinois.

She leaves to cherish her memories; her devoted uncle, Bishop J.E. (Tecola) Moore; two brothers, Gary (Jimmie) Edmon and Jeffery (Tonia) Edmon; sister, Lisa Ferguson; stepbrothers, Frank (Beverly) Edmond Jr.; and Patrick (Adrian); stepsister, Cheryl (Maurice) Gildon; cousins, Rev. Jayme (Willie G.) Moore-Berry, Eld. Gregory (Tracy) Moore, Robin Moore-Zaid, Eld. James (Sondra) Moore; special friends, Debbie Bolden, Jeanette Hamilton, Regina White, Lillie Harrison and Sandra McLurkin who along with Jennifer made up the Avante Garde Social Club; Pat Nelson; goddaughter, Jordon Harris and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
