Joe Holmes

Joe Holmes, Jr. was born on January 1, 1936 in Estill, Mississippi; he was one of seven children born to the late Ethal Washington and Joe Holmes, Sr.  Joe peacefully departed this life on Friday, January 17, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones.

Joe confessed Christ at an early age. He received his education in the Mississippi Public School system.  He would later meet the love of his life, Alice Mae and united in holy matrimony on June 21, 1958.  To this union, six children were born.

Joe and his wife relocated from Rolling Forks, Mississippi to Joliet, IL .

He worked for Seco Steel in Lemont, IL for many years before being laid off, and would begin working for Villa Franciscan Nursing Home where he retired after twenty-three years of services. Joe enjoyed the love of baseball the Chicago cubs was his all-time favorite team he also loved being outside doing yard work and spending time with his family. 

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Ethal Washington and Joe Holmes, Sr.; three brothers, George Washington, Harry Washington and Robert Earl Washington, one sister, Odessa Flowers, one son-in-law, Richard Shaw.

He leaves to cherish his memories, one son, Jerry Holmes of Chicago, IL; five daughters Emma (Ronnie) Catchings, Joyce Shaw; Janice (Ray) Donners, Amy Holmes and Lorena Holmes all of Joliet, IL; eleven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, one sister, Fanny Mae Ross of Calumet City, IL, Willie Lee Washington of Vicksburg Mississippi; and a host of other relatives and friends .
