John Mabry

John ’Hook’ Mabry was born December 28, 1946 to Isiah and Sadie (Collins) Mabry in Pickens, MS and slipped into eternity on July 20, 2025 at home. 

He was educated mostly in the Joliet Public School Systems but graduated high school at Velma Jackson High School in Canton, MS. 

On November 9, 1974, John married Carolyn Ulmer and to this union three children were born. 

John is preceded in death by his parents, Isiah and Sadie Mabry; brothers Roosevelt Journigan, Homer C. Clerk, George Willie Camble, Isiah El-Amin, and Walter (Nick) Mabry; sisters Ellareen (James) Roberts, Lillie Stephens, and Callie (Alphonso) Yates; special nephew Thomas Pruitt.

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 51 years, Carolyn Mabry; four daughters Kendra D. Holiday, DeShonn Mabry, Trinita C. Mabry, and Velma L. Mabry; son Leslie Grays; grandchildren DaeQuon Terry, Amaya Mabry, Dylan Cooper, and Javyn Mabry-Fox; brothers Percy (Bettie) Mabry, Howard (Breonni) Mabry, Luther (Pamela) Mabry, Sr.; sisters Sadie Maddox and Virgie Holmes; special nieces Barbara Mabry-Moffett and Carlotta (Joel) Passmore; special nephew Percy Mabry, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
