John McGilvery, Age 79 was called home to his heavenly home on Thursday, November 21, 2024 surrounded by love and prayers from near and far. Born in Hattiesburg, MS and a longtime resident of Lockport, Illinois. Mr. McGilvery accepted Christ at an early age in Hattiesburg, MS and later joined Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Lockport, IL. Mr. McGilvery proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He retired after 37 years of service from Caterpillar Tractor Company in Joliet, Illinois.
Mr. McGilvery was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Ella Jane McGilvery; five brothers, Billy Roy McGilvery, Willie C. McGilvery, Larry McGilvery, Tom McGilvery and Rogers McGilvery; and two sisters, Josephine Myers and Rosemary Cureton.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Clementine McGilvery; two daughters, Soundra (Michael) McGilvery Jones, and Sandy (Alex) Moore and two sons, Dwight (Dorothy) Stribling, and Jonathan McGilvery; one brother, Obbie (May) McGilvery and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
