John Sneed, Jr. was born on October 17, 1953, in Joliet, Illinois to Mary Hill and John Sneed, Sr.. John lived his life with a quiet strength and an unwavering sense of responsibility that shaped every role he carried.. as a son, brother, father and husband.
John received his education in the Joliet School system and soon developed a profound work ethic that would carry him through his life’s journey. He began his career at Texaco, and after the relocation of the company, continued his professional path with Republic Services, where he proudly served for more than two decades as a member of the Teamsters Union. His dedication, dependability and integrity earned him the deep respect of those who worked beside him.
Although John first found passion in baseball during his younger years, a knee injury guided him toward what would become a defining piece of his life.. bowling. For John, bowling was far beyond a leisure activity. It was a commitment, a discipline, and a lifelong source of camaraderie. He spent many years in league competition and tournaments, while building friendships and earning the admiration of fellow bowlers along the way.
John also carried a deep appreciation for music, quietly collecting the songs that spoke to his heart. He cherished the peace found in those melodies, just as he took pride in the care and attention he gave to his cars. These were not simple hobbies to him.. they were reflections of the things that brought him peace, comfort, and joy.
Throughout many seasons of life, John shared companionship and love with Vera Sneed, whose devotion remained close beside him. Their bond, built over decades, stood as a testament to commitment, love, and the enduring ties of family.
John passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025 at Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Hill; father, John Sneed Sr.; four sisters, Louise Lurry, Betty Jean Tyler, Martha Mae Norris and Shirley Lurry King; two brothers, George Lurry and Kelvin Lurry; one niece, Yvette Lurry.

John was a man who never needed the spotlight to make an impact. His loyalty was shown in actions rather than words. His love expressed in quiet ways that meant more than anyone could measure. His presence brought comfort, his steadiness brought strength, and his life brought meaning to all who knew him.
Though John has taken his rest, the love he gave will always remain. The space he filled in our lives will forever be his, and his memory will continue to live gently in every heart he touched.
“To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.”
