Johnnie Edmonson, Jr.

Johnnie Edmonson Jr.  was born April 29,1950 in Cordelle, GA to the late Hattie Bell Reese and Johnnie B. Edmonson. Johnnie Edmonson, Jr. peacefully transitioned to eternal life on May 3, 2022 in Lawton, OK, surrounded by his children. Johnnie moved to Opa Locka (Miami), FL where his aunt, Lillie Williams, raised him along with his brother, Fredrick Williams, with the help of Ms. Arrington and cousin, Rosa Mae Poole. It is there where he received the nicknames of "Junior" and "Show".

Johnnie relocated to Joliet, IL in 1976, where he then married Carolyn (nee Jones) Edmonson. He was a long-time employee for ComEd. He also worked for Oscar Meyer, Caterpillar, and the University of Iowa. He moved to Decatur, IL for a short period of time where he worked at Millikin University. Johnnie later moved to Lawton, OK with his daughters where he resided for over 15 years. While in Lawton he worked for Lawton Public Schools and Comanche Hospital.

Johnnie loved sports. As a child, Johnnie played baseball and football. He also enjoyed playing recreational softball. His love for baseball later led him to become a coach. Johnnie also loved detailing cars and working outdoors. Johnnie was known for doing lawn care all over town. His passion for lawn care led to Johnnie owning a lawn care service in Lawton, OK where he serviced the senior community until his passing. Johnnie was the life of the party, he loved music. You could not keep him off any dance floor. His pride and joy were his children, grandchildren, and his dogs, April and Lady.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents, Hattie Bell Reese and Johnnie B. Edmonson; special aunt, Lillie Williams; brother, Fredrick Williams; and cousin, Rosa Mae Poole. Johnnie is survived by his children: Alicia (Kennrick) Caffee (Tulsa, OK); Johnnie Edmondson (Miami, FL); Nicole (Marcus) Henderson (Lawton, OK); Jonathan Edmonson (Bloomington, IL); Danielle (Matias) Lesure (Plainfield, IL); and Johnnie Edmonson III (Joliet, IL); 14 grandchildren: Alvin Clemons, Jatwana Clemons, Alicia N. Edmondson, Nicolas Nelson, Ashley Nelson, Aaron Nelson, Ashley Bell-Edmonson, Jonathan Edmonson II, Josiah Edmonson, Joshua Edmonson, Matias (TJ) Lesure, Jr., Myelle Lesure, Amir Edmonson, and Austin Edmonson; special cousin: Mary Poole (Fort Lauderdale, FL); special friends: John Stephney, Aaron Willis, Perry (Fella) Jones III, Jack (June Bug) Crosby, Jr., all of Joliet IL; and Gerald Woods, Jr. of Lawton, Ok.
