Joseph “Joe Man” Nixon Obituary

Joseph “Joe Man” E. Nixon

Joseph E. Nixon, affectionately known as “Joe Man” was born on February 1, 1957 to John E. and Delores Nixon in Joliet, Illinois.  He departed this life on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.

Joe Man was educated in the Joliet Public School System and graduated from Joliet East High School in 1975.  He went on to build a long and dedicated career with Commonwealth Edison, where he worked for more than 37 years before retiring in 2012.

A true legend on his Harley Davidson, Joe Man was fearless, skilled, and experienced-riding with the confidence and grace of a professional.  He was admired by many for the way he commanded the road, leaving behind stories and memories that will live on.

What brought him the greatest joy was sharing his passion for motorcycles with his grandson, Kye Jr.  From the age of three, Joe Man paced Kyle on his first bike, nurturing his love for riding.  With patience and steady guidance, he trained Kyle through his teenage years, watching him grow into a rider nearly as skilled as his beloved “Paw Paw.”  Nothing made Joe Man prouder than seeing Kyle master their signature move, a perfect burnout that spun into a flawless circle.  It was a bond and tradition that defined their relationship.

Joe Man was preceded in death by his wife, Sherri Nixon; his parents, John E. and Delores Nixon; his brother, Mark Nixon; and his sister, Annette McCullum.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his son, Kyle Nixon Sr.; step daughter, Keisha (Tony) Rose;  his siblings, John (Margaret), Carey (Joy), and Debra Kay Betts, all of Joliet, IL; his grandson, Kyle Jr.; his aunt, Josephine Kelly; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Joe Man will be deeply missed, but his love, his teachings, and his legacy on two wheels will forever ride on in the hearts of those who knew him.
