Joyce Petties

Joyce Marie Petties departed peacefully on January 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength.  She was a child of God, and she lived her life “by Faith” trusting in God and leaning on the Lord.

Joyce was born on February 23, 1959, to the late Johnnie Petties Jr. and the late Marguerite Petties in Chicago, IL.  She was the fourth child of six children in this union. 

Joyce was baptized by her late grandfather, the Rev. Calvin Conner and accepting Christ at an early age at Christian Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, IL, her faith was a guiding force in all aspects of her life.

Joyce was a proud attendee of Hyde Park Academy, Joyce exemplified a no-nonsense attitude toward life, tackling challenges with determination and integrity.

In her professional life, Joyce dedicated herself to her role as a Clerk for Greyhound, where her hardworking nature and attention to detail shone. She was well-respected by her colleagues and enjoyed interacting with travelers, sharing in their stories and experiences. Additionally, her compassionate spirit led her to work as a caretaker, where she provided support and kindness to those in need, fostering an environment of comfort and trust.

Joyce also had a playful side, sharing a love of games that included Scrabble, Uno, and her favorite pastime of watching the Food Network. She always stayed abreast of current events and was never shy about sharing her opinions, whether they were popular or not, engaging in spirited conversations that reflected her passion for the world around her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Marguerite and Johnnie Petties Jr. and her siblings, Geraldine Petties, Johnnie Petties, III, and Kenneth Petties, Sr.

Joyce was a devoted family member, who cherished the relationships she built throughout her life. Joyce leaves to cherish her memories by her sister, Inis Petties, and brother, Darnell Petties, along with a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will miss her dearly and hold her memories close to their hearts.

Joyce’s unwavering commitment to her family, paired with her fierce spirit, made her a pillar of strength and a source of inspiration to those around her. As we remember Joyce, we celebrate her life, a life filled with love, dedication, and a profound impact on everyone she touched.

Her legacy will live on in the stories we share and the love we continue to spread in her name.
