Keith Parnell Butler, affectionately known as KB, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the age of 46. Keith was born on August 26, 1979, to Dorothy Woods and Herman Butler in Richton Park, IL.
Keith was a devoted father, and nothing made him happier than being with his kids and his family. He was full of life, always warm, always himself. He had this magnetic personality and a charismatic smile that could light up any room. His laugh was the kind you couldn’t help but join in, and he had a way of making everyone around him feel at ease. It’s something we’ll always remember.
He attended Rich Central High School, where he excelled as an athlete in both basketball and football. After graduation, he worked several jobs, including alongside his mother and aunts in the family restaurant, where he discovered his passion for cooking and catering. Over the years, he helped manage daily operations and continued building his career in food service.
Keith also worked at Christ Hospital as a General Store Technician, where he ensured medication rooms were fully stocked and supported the hospital staff with the supplies they needed. He later returned to his love of cooking, bringing his culinary talents to the University of Chicago with Bon Appétit and Chartwells as a chef. There, he was known for his delicious food, strong work ethic, and the warm smile that greeted everyone at his station. His colleagues admired the pride he took in his work and the kindness he showed to all.
He had a generous heart and a soft spot for helping others. A testament to his generosity, Keith once gave a homeless person the shoes off his own feet. You could always count on KB in times of need.
Keith is survived by his beloved children: Valyncia, Kymonie, Keith Jr., Nick, Kela, Kemya, KeAnthony, Amaurii, Havanna, Kierrah, Kaileah, and Kingston; his granddaughter, Luna; his brothers Lamont Butler, Clovis (Felica) Woods, and Quincy Woods (Essence); his mother Dorothy (Robert); his father Herman; his girlfriend, Keisha; a loving extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many cherished friends.
He is preceded in death by his son, Kessiah Butler.
Keith’s presence will be deeply missed, but the love, laughter, and warmth he gave so freely will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew them.
