Larry Charles Dent was born March 31, 1945 to his parents Roena Dent and Lynn Charles Sharp until he gained his heavenly wings on May 6, 2026.
Larry was a faithful and hardworking man and instilled in his children his famous quote, “You’ve got to go to work everyday regardless of the weather or personal health concerns.” A sentiment he undoubtedly developed during his service in the Army.
He took pride in providing for his family. For as far as can be remembered Larry worked as a mailman for the United States Post Office for many years, until beginning a 17 year career at ComEd until his retirement in 1995. Eager to get back into the workforce Larry worked as a security guard for several years until his health began to decline and enduring the difficulty of overcoming the loss of his bride, Camille, whom he was married to for over 47 years at the time of her death.
He especially enjoyed getting in the yard and playing with his children when they were little or enjoying an evening at the local Drive-In Theatre with his family. He was especially blessed to live long enough to welcome his grandchildren and great-grandchildren into the world and to be lovingly known as “Buckethead,” a nickname given to him by his firstborn granddaughter, Carleta.
His children have been quoted as saying:
“We thank Dad for giving us the Bulls and Bears teams to cheer for, for his excellent grilling and cooking—you can’t forget those burgers and oatmeal cookies—and for his love of television shows, especially Bruce Lee films and Westerns like John Wayne movies and Guns moke. He was always great with numbers and enjoyed playing Sudoku, but his favorites were crossword and word-search puzzles.”
In his latest years among his friends at Victory Center he would often be found at the puzzle table putting together 1000 piece puzzles and enjoying popcorn.
He is preceded in death by his wife. Camille Dent (Odems), his father, Lynn Sharp, his mother Roena Sharp (Dent).
He leaves to cherish his memories; his sister, Sharon Sharpe; sister-in-love, Florady Matthews (John); his only daughter, Carla Craig; his three sons, Rodney Green, Laurence Dent, and Jermaine Dent; his grandchildren, Carleta Wilson (Chamar), Jabari Dent and Lexi Fuqua. His great-grandchildren; Ramyah Tharpe, Chamar Wilson, Kylah Wilson and Caleah Wilson. His special niece, Kendra Coleman (Ricky) and a host of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
