With great sadness, I announce the passing of my dearly beloved mother. She transitioned on Monday, August 18, 2025 with her devoted son by her side in Lockport, Illinois.
Laura Marie Dunn was born April 1, 1937 in Petal, MS to Theodore and Celia McNair. She was the oldest sister of her siblings.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Lockport, IL under the leadership of the late Pastor J.W. Walton, Pastor Emeritus Richard D. House and continued to serve under the current pastor. She faithfully attended Sunday School until her health begin to decline. She also sang in the Choir and served as President of the hospitality committee.
She was united in holy matrimony to Willie Dunn and was married for 51 years. To this union, one son, Albert Bernard Dunn, was born.
She was employed at DeSoto for 10 years and then was employed by Eastman Kodak and retired after 20 years of service.
Laura was affectionately known as "La La" and better known to the family as being the the one who made sure all plans went smoothly and were expedited.
She enjoyed traveling to Mississippi to visit with her siblings, family and friends. Her favorite spot to stop at was Boomland, because shopping was also her forte.
She was a Master Chef in the kitchen and known for her tasty pastries, preparing many wonderful meals for her family and friends.
Laura was preceded in death by her husband, Willie A. Dunn, her parents, Theodore and Celia McNair, five brothers, Ralph (Rena) Travis, Willie McNair, Lee Amos (Mary) McNair, James Robert (Flora Jean) McNair, and Ernest (Vanessa) McNair.
She is survived by her loving and devoted son, Albert Bernard Dunn; her siblings, sisters, Flora Mae (Clarence, deceased) Burkett, Earline Shelby (Curly Shelby), Linda (Earl) Shelby, and Sharon (Bernard) Knight; brothers, Charles (Sandra, deceased) and Levale (Cathy) McNair, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A very special thanks to her Caregiver, Jo Cooper, and special friends, Glenn Williams and JoAnn Williams for their dedication and support. Also a special thanks to her nieces who assisted in keeping her entertained and providing transportation and making sure she visited some of her famous restaurants.
