Laura Smith, born January 18, 1963, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026. She lived a life marked by kindness and a quiet strength that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. She gave her life to Christ at an early age, and her faith was evident in her kindness, her patience, and her gentle spirit.
Laura was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She had a gift for making people feel seen and valued. Her presence brought warmth into every room, and her compassion left a lasting imprint on countless lives. She loved dancing, and she enjoyed being with her family and showing her nieces and nephews unconditional love.
She approached life with grace and gratitude, finding joy in simple moments—family gatherings, shared meals, and good conversations. Her legacy is one of love, generosity, and unwavering dedication to the people she cared for.
Laura is preceded in death by her father, Lige Smith Jr.; her bonus father, Howard Pruitt; her sister, Angela Carter; her brother, Mickey Carter; her nephew, Quiane Smith Sr.; her great‑nephew, Quiane Smith Jr.; along with other loved ones who have passed and happily welcomed her home.
She also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved mother, Minister Ester Pruitt of Joliet, IL; four sisters, Sara Smith of Sanger, Texas,Yolanda Smith of Aubrey, Texas, Clarissa Smith of Joliet, IL, and Pamela (Charles) Finley of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; four brothers, Mickey Smith of Joliet, IL, Charlie (Jana) Carter of Monroe, Louisiana, Tommy (Tabitha) Carter of Monroe, Louisiana, and Anthony Carter of Dallas, Texas. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who filled her life with love, laughter, and pride.
Though her earthly journey has ended, the impact of her presence will continue to shine through the lives she touched.
