Laura Lynette Travis was born October 21, 1971, to Milbert Travis and Mazzie L. Gray (Smith) at St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet Illinois. She passed away from this earthly life on Sunday, June 16, 2024.
Laura affectionately called “Nettie-pooh” was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and Muscular Dystrophy when she was 18 months old. Even though the doctors gave her a short life expectancy, she went on to graduate from the Illinois Center for Rehabilitation and Education in Chicago, Illinois.
Through the years, along with her special friend and mentor, Mary Tisdale, Laura participated in and helped with multiple programs for the disabled throughout the community. She also denied the odds by having a son, Kenyata Nyrobi Travis after being told it would kill her.
Laura was preceded in death by her father, Milbert Travis.
She leaves her memory to her son, Kenyata; her mother Mazzie; one sister, Kathy (Samuel) Buchanon; two brothers, Frank Waters and Milbert (Marivel); six nephews, six nieces and six great nieces; and numerous other relatives and friends.
