Leon Joseph Williams was born on August 1, 1941 to the late Emily Hawkins and Walter Harris in New Orleans, Louisiana. Leon moved from Earth to Eternity on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, IL.
Leon spent most of his life in the Illinois area. He attended grade school and high school here. He was baptized at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Chicago, IL. He later joined St. Dennis Catholic Church where he served within the Eucalyptus Ministry and served faithfully in the Men’s Ministry. It was at St. Dennis where he joined the Knights of Columbus and excelled to a fourth-degree grand knight.
Leon was a truck driver for some years before he entered entrepreneurship,where he purchased Winter’s Lounge and gave it the new name,Mozambique. Leon’s business flourished for over 10 years.
Leon is preceded in death by his parents, George and Emily Williams and Walter Harris, maternal and paternal grandparents; one brother, Charles Williams; sister, Jacqueline Williams; two sons, Patrick and Leon Williams, Jr., one great-grandson, Kahleel Gains-Streeter.
Leon leaves to cherish his memories, his children, Joseph (Sheila) Evans, Suzette Williams, Nannette (Kevin) Woods, Annette (Marty) Jones, Michael Williams, David Evans, and Deon Williams; siblings, Earl (Caroline) Williams,Cordelia Taylor, George (Melody) Williams, Patricia Lomack, Denise Wagner, W.T. Frederick, Emily Williams, Mark (Tayo), James (Andrea) Williams; daughter-in-law, TyTyana Williams, 33 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, and special loved-ones, Robert (Melanie) Williams, Ella Williams, Doretha Peavy, Tina Evan, Lorraine French, and Robbie Robinson.
