LOVIE MAGNOLIA GIVENS, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2021 at The Parc of Joliet. She was born April 7, 1932 in Bolivar, TN to Annie Bell “Tott” Givens and Harry Wilson.
She was loved by many people. Her hands were rarely still. She shared her love by making Cha Cha, Barbeque and was known for her famous peanut brittle.
She loved watching the Chicago Cubs, Bulls and the DePaul Blue Demons. March Madness was a favorite time in our home. She attended a Final Four game in Indianapolis in 1997.
She worked many years at the Joliet Drapery Store in downtown Joliet until she retired. She didn’t stop there. She became a Foster Grandparent (Grandma Lovie) for Catholic Charities until 2014.
She was a faithful servant to the Lord and a member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Joliet. She loved to sing and was a member of the choir.
Lovie is survived by her daughter, Valerie (Andre’) Gaines of Joliet, IL; sister-in-aw, Betty Givens of Merrillville, IN; nephew, Wayne Givens of Palmdale, CA; nieces, Lori Givens-Lampkin of Merrillville, IN and Diane Givens of Gary, IN; cousins, Precious Jenkins of Cleveland, OH, Johnny Churchill of Oklahoma, OK and Winnie Walker of Jackson, TN; best friends, Bessie Harris and Lucille Hill, both of Joliet, IL and a host of relatives and friends.
