Luterner Perry, lovingly referred to as "Serg" by his family and close friends, was born on January 30, 1944, in the small town of Jonestown, Mississippi. He was the cherished son of Ben Sr. and Lubertha Perry (Williams), who instilled in him the values of hard work, kindness, and community spirit. Throughout his life, Luterner was known for his warm-hearted nature and ability to unite people.

On December 15, 2024, Luterner peacefully passed away, leaving behind fond memories and a profound legacy of love and dedication. He played a pivotal role in his family’s lives, providing unwavering support and encouragement to his children and grandchildren. His commitment to his loved ones and his generous spirit made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. From an early age, Luterner exhibited a remarkable passion for sports, particularly shining on the basketball court and the softball field. His natural athletic ability allowed him to excel as a shortstop during his youth, showcasing his quick reflexes and strong throwing arm. As he progressed in his sports journey, he transitioned to playing third base, where his strategic understanding of the game and leadership qualities stood out among his teammates. This deep-seated love for the game not only shaped his character but also intertwined with his identity, following him throughout his life.

After completing high school in Jonestown, Luterner made the bold decision to relocate to Chicago, a city vibrant with opportunities. It was here that he embarked on a distinguished 45-year career in the hospitality industry, dedicating himself to providing exceptional service and creating memorable experiences for guests. Known far and wide for his exceptional work ethic and approachable, warm demeanor, Luterner quickly built a reputation as a reliable and dedicated professional. His commitment to excellence earned him numerous accolades and awards throughout his career, reflecting not only his contributions but also his ability to inspire those around him. He took immense pride in serving others, always striving to exceed expectations and making a positive impact in the lives of his colleagues and guests alike demeanor, Luterner earned numerous accolades and took pride in serving others.

Luterner first met Gladys Campbell during his early adulthood, and their connection quickly blossomed into a deep and lasting love. They decided to marry and built a life together, joyfully welcoming their daughter, Tammy Marie, into the world. As a devoted father, Luterner embraced the challenges and joys of parenthood wholeheartedly. His love extended not only to Tammy but also to Charmin, Carol, and Eddie. Through nurturing and supportive relationships, he created a warm and loving family environment where each child felt cherished and valued.

In retirement, he embraced his passion for professional and collegiate sports often sharing this enthusiasm with his son, grandchildren, brothers, and close friends. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren supporting their athletic pursuits and reminiscing about fond memories with his brothers.

Luterner was preceded in death by his parents, Ben Sr. and Lubertha Perry; his wife, Gladys Perry; his sisters, Arlene People, and Ruby Lee Perry-Boyles; and his brother, Ben Junior.

He leaves to cherish his memory his stepmother, Mary Lee Perry; his children, Charmin, Shirlene (Russell), Carol, Eddie (Connie), Tammy, Clifton (Marvalene), Henry, and Ruthina (Malone); and his grandchildren, Marque, Tiffany, Martez, Donovan, Deontre’, Kentrell, Nicholas, Ashley, Amanda, Briana, Kayla, Victoria, Calease, Andria and Makyiha along with twelve great-grandchildren. His siblings Rhenett (Brenda), Henry (Carolyn), Georgia (Larry), Jimmy (Mildred), Nathaniel (Maxine), Oscar (Joyce), Bernice (Earnest), Willie Earl, Karl (Demetra), Leon (Josie), Deborah (Victor), and one brother-in-law, Robert Lee Boyles and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Luterner Perry will be remembered for his love of sports, his commitment to family, and the kindness he extended to everyone he met. His impact on those who knew him will resonate for generations to come.
