Margaret (Wright) Clarke was born on February 8, 1926 in Grenada, MS to Jacob and Rosie (Neal) Wright. Mother Margaret Clarke gained her heavenly wings on Sunday, October 27, 2019 at home with her family.
Mother Clarke attended school in Grenada, MS. She accepted Christ at an early age in Grenada. She later moved to Joliet, IL and joined Mt. Zion Tabernacle under the leadership of Mother Lucy. In 1974 she united with Friendship under the leadership of the late Rev. Robert Turner, where her late husband, Rev. Reginald S. Clarke served as Assistant Pastor.
On April 8, 1957 she was united in holy matrimony to the late Rev. Reginald S. Clarke. To this union, three children were born; Melva L., Cynthia G. and Margaret A. (Tiny). She served under the late Pastor Joseph Wright and recently under the leadership of Pastor Gary R. Williams in Joliet, IL. She served as Sunday school teacher, choir member and chairperson for the Mother’s Board.
Mother Clarke loved her church, her pastors and Pastor Gary R. Williams and his family. She did what she could to help the church until her health started to limit her participation. She was a friendly person and loved everyone and she loved the Lord. One of her favorite songs was “On the Battlefield for My Lord.”
She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Reginald S. Clarke and two daughters, Melva L. Clarke Robinson McCarter and Cynthia G. Clarke Long.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories; two children, Leander “Bush” (Mary) Black of Marysville, CA and their children and Margaret A. “Tiny” Clarke of Joliet, IL; six grandsons, Reginald, Rashad, Christian, Gianncarlo, Deon D. King of Joliet, IL and Malik Payton of California; six granddaughters, Michelle, her children and grandchildren of Texas, Staresha L. Robinson of Brookhaven, MS, Ashanti of California, Ronique Long and Brianna King of Joliet, IL; four great grandchildren, Timara, Travon, Tiana of Brookhaven, MS and Kaide Ashton of Ottawa, IL; one brother, Moses Wright of Grenada, MS; two god-daughters, Evelyna Washington and Veronica Moore-Robinson; one god-son, Jason Moore of Joliet, IL and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
