Mary Ester Scott passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on April 7, 1933, in Lewisville, MS, she was the beloved daughter of the late Banana Clayton.
Mary was joyously united in marriage to Henry Walter Scott on January 5, 1949. Together, they shared 42 years of loving marriage filled with mutual support and devotion until Henry’s passing. Throughout her life, Mary held various roles with a profound impact on her community, most notably as a Pre-School teacher and Nurse Aide. After 30 years of dedicated service, she retired from St. Patrick’s Nursing Home, leaving behind a legacy of care and compassion.
A master seamstress, Mary possessed the remarkable ability to create beautiful, functional items from simple materials. Her hands skillfully crafted everything from elegant dresses and hats to cozy bedding and practical furniture. Mary’s home was always open; she lived by the principle of service, providing meals for the hungry and clothes for those in need. Her love extended to animals and people alike, touching the lives of many with her warm conversations and welcoming spirit.
A lifelong member of Mars Hill Community Church of God InChrist, Mary was deeply involved in her church community. She served as the revered Church Mother and chaired the Pastor’s Aide Committee, roles through which she offered spiritual support and guidance to countless individuals over her 50 years of faithful involvement.
Mary will be remembered as a beacon of kindness and generosity. She leaves behind a legacy of love and selflessness that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
Mary’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by her loving family, numerous friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have experienced her kindness. Mary’s life will be celebrated in a service reflecting her enduring faith and the profound impact she made on her community. She was a remarkable wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her life's legacy leaves a deep footprint in all our hearts.
Mary Ester Scott was preceded in death by her mother, Ms. Banana Clayton; husband, Henry Walter Scott; one sister, Annie Ruth Carson; two brothers, Bobby Ray Clayton and Freddie James Lane; two sons, George Henry Scott and Vernon James Scott; one daughter, May Ruth Adams; two grandsons, Allen Coney and Terrell Scott.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Mary Etta Chambers, Pamela Denise Coney and Gloria Miller; sons, James Walter Scott, and Fred Scott; grandchildren, Katrina (Paul) Fuller, Tangeria(Bryan) Pettis, George Scott, Jr, Christopher Adams, Darnell Adams and Maurice Avent; great grandchildren, Kailyn (Matthew) Richmond, Paul Fuller II, Loren Fuller, Alexis Thurman, Aliyah Coney, Josiah Coney, Jeremiah T. Avent, Jocelyn J. Avent, Akasha A. Avent and Aliza Saffold; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
