Mary Keith Obituary

Sister Mary H. Keith was born March 24, 1935 in Laurel, MS to the late Mr. Willie and Mrs. Cora Lee Hatten who preceded her in death. She was raised up in Laurel before moving to Chicago.  She attended Chicago public Schools and graduated in 1952. She resided in several different places in her life. She accepted Christ at an early. She united with Morning Star Baptist Church in Hebron, MS.

She would later relocate to Hattiesburg, MS in her 20’s and from there to Jackson, MS, and from there to Buffalo, NY. After considerable time traveling and living in different cities, she once again uprooted and moved to Joliet, IL in 2015. She would continue to serve the Lord by attending services in those respective cities. Upon moving to Joliet, IL she united with Mount Moriah Baptist Church and attended Sunday School and Worship services faithfully until her health begin to diminish.

Sister Keith had a love for travelling and would travel to Florida and other cities to spend time with those that she had a relationship with.  She had a fondness for Pastors and their families in each place she resided and would go to visit with them. She also enjoyed cooking, entertaining, traveling, and playing bingo with the residents of the various places she resided. She also loved gardening and fishing.

Sister Keith is survived by seven sisters Ernestine Travis and Mattie Hill of Joliet, IL, Mae Willie Hatten of Detroit, MI, and Phyllis Hatten of Chicago, IL, Michelle Hatten of Atlanta, GA, Minnie Lee Hatten of Los Angeles, CA, and Suzette Hatten of Jacksonville, NC; She is also survived by six brothers Eric(Robin) Hatten, Jeff Hatten, and Willie Earl(Linda) Hatten of Joliet, IL, David Hatten of Michigan City, MI, Tommy(Louise-deceased) Hatten of Laurel, MS, and Robert Hatten of Los Angeles, CA. She is also survived by one grandson, Marcus Hatten of Buffalo, NY, four great grand -children of Buffalo, NY. She also leaves her special niece and nephew, Angela and Russell Barefield of Atlanta, GA. She also leaves a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family to mourn her lost.

She is preceded in death by her husband James Keith, her son Darnell Hatten, and one brother William Hatten.
