Mathries, fondly known as Cookie, was born March 2, 1957 in Chicago, IL, Cook County to Mattie and Edward Calvert. She was the fourth child born to their union.
Mathries James transitioned July 8, 2024 at her home in Joliet IL at the age of 67. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Ronald Calvert; brothers, Edward Jr., and Theoda “Ted” Calvert.
She was educated by Chicago Public School System and employed at The Hollywood Casino Hotel as a desk clerk. She was family oriented and found great joy in spending time with family. Cookie loved and cherished her family above all else.
She was a professed Israelite and studied daily to learn all she could about our history.
Cookie was married to J.C. James in 1981, and to that union were born four children.
She leaves to cherish her memory: sisters, Patricia Stovall, Michelle (Darryl) Prince; brother, Eric Calvert; children: son, Antwoin (Sherlinda) Calvert; daughters, Antoinette (Charles) Lowe, and Lonnique James; grandchildren, Deshaun Fulton Calvert, Dominque Calvert, Tierra Calvert, Antwoin Calvert Jr., Karissa Calvert, Makela Calvert, Kerra Casillas, Unique and Uniaya, Aria; special cousins, Jantyre “Jan”, Eugene and Keith Hall, and Kevin Amos; aunts, uncle, and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
