Obituary

Mattie Ree Dorris was born on January 22, 1931, in Winona, Mississippi. She was the eldest of seven children born to the union of the late father, Ulish Moore Sr. and Mother Lucille Rimpson Moore.

Mother Dorris received her education in Winona, Mississippi Public School System. She united in holy matrimony to the Late Pastor Lee Chester Dorris Sr. on October 12, 1946. They were blessed to celebrate 52 years of marriage. To this union was birthed eleven children. They moved from Winona, Mississippi to Joliet, Illinois in 1947.

Mother Dorris was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost in the early 1950s.  She served faithfully in ministry, in a multitude of capacities, always leading in love.  On March 21, 1980, God called her husband, the late Pastor Lee Chester Dorris Sr., to Pastor and he became the Founder and Pastor of Redeem Church of God in Christ in Joliet, Illinois, where it continues to thrive and serve as a significant staple and blessing for the advancement of the Kingdom under the leadership of Pastor Eugene Fears Jr.

Mother Dorris carried God’s glory as she served, our Lord, her husband, her children, her church, her neighborhood, and her senior living community.  She had a way of making people feel special and individualized. She remained the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman, again serving faithfully where planted and impacting lives.

Mother Mattie Dorris went from Labor to Reward on Friday, April 14, 2023, in Litchfield Park, Arizona. She was 92 years old.
