Mattie Pearl Loper was born February 12, 1940 in Koenton, AL to the union of Elijah and Ruby Traylor. She was the second oldest of eight children. She peacefully departed this life on February 11, 2025. Mattie Pearl understood that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Mattie Pearl dedicated her life to Christ at a young age and further strengthened her spiritual foundation by becoming a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for over 60 years.
In the early 1950’s she moved to Lockport, Illinois, where she eventually completed her education at Lockport Township High School.
She retired from Western Electric and went on to work as a machine operator at Lindy’s.
Mattie Pearl had a passion for watching all types of basketball, her favorite team being the Chicago Bulls. She was also an enthusiast of the Chicago Bears and Cubs. Judge Judy was her favorite television show.
Mattie Pearl cherished the moments spent reaching out to her family and friends. She delighted in bestowing gifts upon others.
Mattie Pearl preceded in death by her parents; her siblings; Mildred Traylor, Doris Johnson, Roy Traylor, her son, Lionel Loper, her grandson; Lijah Loper.
Mattie Pearl leaves to celebrate and cherish her memories: daughter, Lisa Loper-Houston; siblings, Pearl Perry, Bessie Nobles, Linda Traylor, Stanley Traylor of Plainfield, IL; grandkids, Dondre, Mylisa, and Mary Houston; Lexus, Lionea, Lionel Jr, and Lijahna Loper; and a host of great grandkids, nieces, and nephews; favorite niece being Wenda Cartwright.
