Ora Lynell Mitchell

Ora Lynell Mitchell was born January 14, 1946 to Charley and Martha (Backstrom) Flemons in Water Valley, MS.  She departed this life on July 1, 2021 at her residence.

Lynell received Christ at the age of 9 years old, her family moved to Paducah, KY and she united with Harrison Street Missionary Baptist Church.

Lynell moved to Joliet, Illinois in August 1985.  She united with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Willie Wright. Lynell’s miistry was the Health Unit, this was her passion; she served faithfully over 30 years.

She united in holy matrimony to Robert Mitchell on December 31, 1965; to this union three children were born, Sandra Crusoe, Anthony Flemons and Robert Mitchell, Jr.

She worked and retired from Tellab.  She had a lot to give, so she started working at Catholic Charities as a foster grandparent.  She loved it and the children loved her.

Lynell was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Robert Mitchell Sr.; her parents; 11 brothers, Johnnie, Percy, John t., Winifred, Nelson, Charles, Esker Lee, Edward Earl, Michael, Jesse Frank and William; five sisters, Jessie Mae, Essie May, Mary Kay, Lenette and Kate.

Lynell is survived by three children, Sandra Crusoe, Anthony (Joann) Flemons and Robert Mitchell Jr.; one brother, James Russell of Detroit, MI; brother-in-love, William Mitchell and Ernest Mitchell of Paducah, KY; five sisters-in-love, Elizabeth Crumbaugh, Dorothy Cole, Margie Crumbaugh, all of Paducah, KY, Sharon Flemons-Robinson of Detroit, MI and Lynda Flemons of Joliet, IL; grandchildren, Dominique Crusoe of Joliet, IL, Brandon (Paula) Crusoe of West Palm Beach, FL, Edrice Rigers, Nikita Rogers, Nekeya Rogers, Germaine Flemons, Rashinta Hinton, Marcus Flemons, and Kasha Ora Mitchell of Nevada; great grandchildren, Brionna Crusoe, Jayden Bingham, Kaelyee Crusoe, Juwan Lee, Kordell Crusoe and Delano Crusoe; many nieces, nephews, extra daughter (niece) Vernettia; her St. Paul Church family and her friends at the John F. Kennedy building.

Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Paducah, KY on Monday, July 12, 2021.
