Pamela Serita McEwen aged 63 departed this life on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, with her loving daughter and sister by her side.
Pamela was born on November 25, 1957 in Joliet, IL to the late John D and Alice Pearl McEwen. As a child, Pamela was very gifted in the arts. She had a passion for poetry and was a very accomplished pianist. Her favorite song to play on the piano was "God Has Smiled on Me".
Pamela was raised in the church where she accepted Christ at an early age. She grew up attending Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the late Pastor Rev A.M. Varnado (her uncle). She went on to write and deliver several sermons under the late Rev. Ella Hawkins.
She received her bachelor's degree in Communications/Journalism from Columbia College. She went on to work at Johnson Publishing Company and later United Way of Will County where she was the Director of the then newly established Volunteer Referral Service. In that position, she was able to establish volunteer opportunities with such agencies as Catholic Charities, American Red Cross, Joliet Public Library, Lambs Fold, and the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic.
Pamela was preceded in death by her parents, John D and Alice Pearl McEwen; her siblings, Bridget Churchill (Richard), Terry Irby (Harry), Eric McEwen and Dwight McEwen.
Pamela leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children: Tabitha Reed (Ric), Jonathan Johnson III and Ricci Scatton; two sisters, Ingrid Snapp (Clyde) and Alice McEwen; three brothers, John McEwen (Azalea), Leonard McEwen (Shelia) and Michael McEwen; grandchildren, Brianna Johnson, Ashton Reed, Isaiah Reed, Nkosi Johnson, Caris Scatton, Capri Scatton and Raven Aldridge and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
