Patricia A. Moore

Patricia Ann (Harris) Moore was born on August 22, 1929 to James E. and Helen T. (Howard) Harris in Joliet, Illinois.  Patricia had three brothers and was their only daughter.

On February 4, 1950, Patricia married the love of her life William M. Moore.  Seven children were born to this union. Pat and Bill were married for 62 years.

Patricia was a lifelong member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.  She taught Sunday School to children as a young adult and was a member of the Pinch Hitters Club.  Patricia was one of the leaders of the Girl Scout troop at Mt. Olive.  She joined the Joliet chapter of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) and was an active member.

Patricia graduated from Joliet Township High School, Central Campus.  She went back to school many years later and graduated from Joliet Junior College with an Associate of Arts Degree.

Patricia was employed by Illinois Bell (later AT&T) for 26 years.  She started out at Illinois Bell in Joliet as a key punch operator.  She was transferred to Chicago and worked as a Service Coordinator.  She retired in 1994.

Patricia enjoyed spending time with her family.  She traveled as a young girl with her grandmother Julia Howard to visit relatives in Valdosta, Georgia.  She delighted in visiting family members across the United States and especially enjoyed visiting family in California.  She was an excellent seamstress.  She baked bread and the family enjoyed coming home to the aroma of fresh baked bread.  She relished family cookouts and holiday dinners.  She loved to shop for herself, children, and grandchildren.  Pat and Bill attended many Beacon Club events and especially enjoyed the annual New Year’s Eve parties.

Patricia’s favorite Bible verse was Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” 

Patricia went home to eternal rest on November 10, 2023.  She was preceded in death by her parents, James E. and Helen T. (Howard) Harris; husband William M. Moore; infant daughter, Karen Lloydese Moore; infant grandson Brian Craig Moore and two brothers, James E. (Dorothy (deceased)) Harris, Jr. and Jerome N. Harris.

Patricia is survived by her brother, Dr. Charles R. (JoAnn) Harris of Chicago; six children: Patricia Lynne Moore of Crest Hill, IL, Anita D. (Michael) Moore-Cater of Chicago, IL, William Douglas (Marly) Moore of Friendswood, TX, Dwayne H. Moore of Chicago, IL, Terrence L. (Cassie) Moore of Chicago, IL and James C. Moore of Joliet, IL, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
