Peyton Williams Obituary

Peyton LaRoy Williams was born June 2, 1939, in Toledo Ohio to Clarence and Beth Williams. Peyton was one of three children. He enjoyed his childhood with his two sisters, Rita and Janet Williams, who both preceded him in his death.

Peyton and his family moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he graduated from high school and attended college. It was in high school that Peyton developed two hobbies that he was passionate about: cars and singing.

Peyton followed in his talented mother’s footsteps and pursued a musical career in his spare time. He sang in a band in the 1980s called “The Royalties” and later recorded several songs that are still enjoyed today.

Peyton also loved to work on cars and watch car racing. His love for cars and engines led him to his career at Navistar. Peyton had a progressive career with Navistar. He worked his way into leadership and retired as a manager after 29 years of service. Peyton’s ambitions did not stop after retirement. He owned two successful video stores in the 1990s. He later started a career in law enforcement for the State of Illinois, where he retired a second time.

After retirement, Peyton spent time doing things that he loved. He enjoyed maintaining the beautiful home that he shared with his loving wife, Sandra. He also enjoyed fishing, afternoons at the racetrack and debating politics with friends and family.

One of the most important events that happened in Peyton’s life occurred only one year ago. In 2023, Peyton accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Joliet, IL.

Peyton lived a full life. God called him home on Thursday, February 22, 2024. Peyton leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife, Sandra Williams; three sons, Peyton Williams Jr., Eric (Jeneese) Williams and Vincent Williams; two daughters through marriage, Sonji (Robert) Cameron and Nikisha (Brian) Ramsey; 13 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
