Phyllis Jones

Phyllis Jones was born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 27, 1964, to Eugene Richardson and Vera L. Johnson. Phyllis was eight years old when she accepted Christ into her life at New Pasadena Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend O.T. Dawson.

Phyllis graduated from Thornridge High School and later attended Lewis University. After college, she met and married Andre Brown, who preceded her in death. To this union, one child was born, Pavielle Brown.

In 1987, Phyllis started her career in corrections at Stateville Correctional Center, where she met the love of her life Delanda Jones, and to this union, one child was born, Breanna Jones. Phyllis spent the next 27 years working for the state of Illinois until she retired from Sheridan Correctional Center in 2014. 

Phyllis’ life was filled with many events and activities over the years. One that held particular meaning was the Expanding Horizons book club. She loved expanding her world through reading and fellowshipping with old and new friends. Phyllis went the extra mile, as she always did, by stepping up and serving as secretary for many years. In 2016, Phyllis explored a new employment venture when she became the office manager at the Carter Realty Group, where she has been employed for the past six years.

On April 1, 2022, Phyllis left her earthly home and went to her heavenly home to be with the Lord. She leaves to mourn her loving husband Delanda; daughters Pavielle Brown and Breanna Jones; grandchildren, Akeli, Aaron, and Peyton; her mother Vera Boyland and father Eugene (Pat) Richardson; brother Troy (Rochelle) Richardson; aunts Maxine Sawyer, Debra (Wardell) Ferguson, Gwendolyn Johnson, and Anita Richardson; uncle Charles Richardson; and a host of cousins and friends.
