Pinkie M Sampson was born July 3rd, 1947, in Chicago, IL. She was the middle child of John and Blanche Mitchell.
Pinkie moved to Joliet as a child and attended Orphman elementary through 8th grade and graduated from Joliet Central high school. Pinkie participated in extra curriculum activities like singing in the school choir, gymnastics, and playing the piano, throughout high school. Initially, Pinkie pursued a degree in Mortuary Science, but quickly realized that her passion was in law. She worked for Joliet Correctional Center and Statesville Correctional Center, for many years as an educator. She received a certificate in stenography and began working in the Will County court system.
As a child Pinkie gave her life to Christ at All Nations C.O.G.I.C. She also sang in the Sunshine band under the direction of her mother. It was often reported that Pinkie was one of the young people found shouting gloriously around the church. Later, Pinkie and her family began attending Refuge Mission United Holy Church of America, Inc, under Elder Ethel Chandler. Pinkie was very active and was part of many church auxiliaries from directing the choir, Sunday school secretary, and president of the usher board. Pinkie obtained her ministerial license and began ministering throughout the district of UHCA. Pinkie also did missionary work for the elderly.
It was at Refuge Mission that Pinkie and Hershel Lee Sampson Sr, met for the first time. It was at that moment, at first glance, Hershel knew he’d found his wife. From that union, two children were born, Hershel Jr (Tosha) and Isaac (Sonya). Pinkie departed this life on Tuesday, July 26, 2022, in Downers Grove, IL.
