Plummer Sullivan Obituary

Plummer Sullivan was born on January 28, 1929 in Greenville (Laurens County), South Carolina, the seventh of eight children from the union of Cade T. Sullivan and Lydie Neeley. His parents preceded him in death as well as six siblings.  Plummer attended elementary and high school in Greenville.  He was inducted into the Armed Services on February 13, 1951 and honorably discharged on February 5, 1953 after earning a Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and a United Nations Service Medal.

In 1953, while serving on the Usher Board of Lilydale Progressive Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois, he met Gladys Parrish, the love of his life. They were married on April 29, 1956 at St. James A.M.E. Church. From this union four children were born; Paula, Preddis, Michael and Sterling.  Later added to the family were Erin, Regina and Sade’.

A devout Baptist, Plummer was a proud member of Zion Travelers Missionary Baptist Church which he joined in 1993 under the leadership of Rev. Alfred Smith. In 2003, he was ordained and served as Deacon; additionally, he served as a member of the Usher Board and Men’s Choir until his health no longer permitted.

Plummer was a very quiet, honorable, loving husband and father. He enjoyed sports, and was an outstanding pitcher nicknamed “Lefty” by many.  Plummer was very proud of his children’s athletic endeavors, education and career accomplishments.  He was a very hard worker and an excellent provider for his family.  Plummer retired after many years of work at R.R. Donnelly and the United States Post Office in 1992.

Plummer went to be with the Lord on April 30, 2019 at 9:35 a.m. after a brief illness. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 63 years, Gladys; his loving and devoted children, Paula, Preddis (Elisa), Michael (Vicki), Sterling (Karen), Erin, Regina (Billy) and Sade’; grandchildren, Brandon ( Jacqueline), Bryce, Jordan, Micah, Mason, Payton, Sterling Jr., Christiane, Amara and Jayda; great grandchildren, Anthony and Evalyn; godchildren, Jeanette, Cindy (Lee), Robert, Layton (Karlie) and Jeremy; brother, Homer (Shirley), brother-in-law, Samuel (Clara); and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
