Raymond Hancock Obituary

Raymond Lee Hancock was born on August 3, 1944 in Chicago, IL to Welbia and Ada Mae Hancock. He was the second of five children. He departed this life peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice, Joliet, IL.


Raymond attended and graduated from Joliet Public Schools, where he was an avid athlete. He met the love of his life, Sharon and they were united in holy matrimony on December 23, 1977.
Raymond accepted Christ at an early age, he attended St. Mark CME Church, Joliet, IL,  prior to his health failing.

Raymond was employed at GAF Corporation and Grant's Hardware, after his retirement he enjoyed performing small jobs for others.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ardella Hancock. 

Raymond leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife of 42 years, Sharon; stepson,  Lorenzo Gaskin, Miami FL; two brothers, Jerome Hancock and Brian (Chris) Sims both of Joliet, IL; one sister, Ava Smith; three aunts, Bertha Rankins, Betty Mc Kenzie, both of Chicago, IL and Barbara Sims, Joliet, IL; mother-in-law, Mary Gaskin; two sister-in-laws, Sheila Adams and Debra Gaskin, North Carolina; five brother-in-laws, David (Alice) Gaskin and Merrick Gaskin, both of Florida, Sam (Jeanette) Gaskin,  Hartley(Lenora) Gaskin and Eugene (Sandy) Gaskin of Joliet, IL; his nieces, nephews as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
