Richard Lockhart Obituary

Richard Julius Lockhart was born on January 7, 1959, to Rosie L. Smith (nee Williams) and Levill Lockhart in Joliet, Illinois. He passed away suddenly on July 27, 2024, at the age of 65. Richard grew up in Joliet, where he attended Joliet Public Schools. He was employed for 11 years and 11 months at The Home Depot RDC 5851 in Joliet, Illinois. Richard was a beloved father, grandfather, and uncle whose warmth and kindness touched all who knew him. Richard’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his daughter and grandchildren, who affectionately called him "PaPa." He cherished every moment with them, creating memories that will last a lifetime. His love for fishing was well-known among friends and family. Richard’s passion for fishing was not just a hobby but a way of life. His fishing trips with his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews were always filled with laughter, lessons, and the tradition of “throwing the first fish back in the water for the love of his life, Linda”. Richard also had a love for barbecuing, baking cakes, reading the newspaper, watching the news and playing the lottery.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Rosie L. Smith (nee Williams) and Levill Lockhart, the love of his life, Linda Smith, his son, Julius M. Smith (Peewee), and his Godparents, Edwin T. and Mary Sims.

Richard leaves to cherish his memory to his loving daughter, Charita Smith, his four adoring grandchildren, Cha’Faylin (J. Combs), Janiyah, Jaylin and Aaliesha; three great-grandchildren, Carter, Aiya, and Aris; his sister, Judith Smith, God Siblings, Larry, Ernest and Francina; special niece, Shalinda, special sons, Frederick and Quincy; best friend, Bruce; his Home Depot RDC 5851 work crew and a host of other relatives and friends.
