Together, they rest in peace, leaving behind a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family.
Richard was the eldest son of Richard Maxwell Sr. and Frances Maxwell. Growing up in Alexandria, LA, Richard embraced his role as the oldest of four siblings. He was known for his strength, unwavering loyalty, and tireless work ethic. Throughout his life, Richard worked hard to provide for his family and ensure their happiness and well-being. His love for his family was always his guiding force.
A proud graduate of Peabody Magnet High School, Richard was a standout in the school’s band program, where he served as the section leader for the drummers. His leadership, discipline, and passion for music earned him the respect of his peers and laid the foundation for his life of dedication and service.
At the age of 19, Richard met Terry, and their connection was immediate and enduring. They built a life together that spanned more than four decades, filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. One of the highlights of their relationship was their shared love of dancing. Whether at home or at family gatherings, Richard and Terry were always the first to take to the dance floor, their movements an expression of their deep bond.
Richard was known as “Brotha-in-Law” and “Uncle Rick” to Terry’s family. From telling his sister-in-law, “Let’s go dancing!” to showing his nephew how to cook a favorite recipe, Richard was always sharing his love and joy for life. Whether he was getting Christmas presents for the babies or offering his wisdom and advice, it was clear that family was at the heart of everything he did. Marriage could not have made them any more family—Richard loved them all as his own, and they embraced him as one of their own. His bond with them was strong, and his love for them was unwavering.
Richard was also known for his love of cooking, especially around the barbecue pit. His backyard cookouts became a cherished tradition for family and friends, where delicious meals were shared, and laughter filled the air. These gatherings, centered around Richard’s cooking, reflected his generous spirit and his commitment to bringing people together.
As a father, Richard was a steady presence in the lives of his four children: Cortina Howard, Clifton Maxwell, Lekeisha Maxwell, and Desirae Maxwell. He provided them with love, guidance, and a strong foundation for life. His legacy of hard work, devotion, and care will continue to guide them in the years to come.
Richard is survived by his children, Cortina Howard, Clifton Maxwell, Lekeisha Maxwell, and Desirae Maxwell; his three siblings, Carl Maxwell, Karen Maxwell, and Jackie Maxwell; his mother, Frances Maxwell; and his beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and extended family. While his passing leaves an immense void in the hearts of his family and friends, Richard’s love, strength, and wisdom will live on in his children and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
